I do not have children yet, but I work with them every day. I am a therapist for an alternative school, which means that I see children that the local school districts are incapable of handling appropriately. These children are great kids, but they have a lot of behavioral issues, and I am constantly on the lookout for toys that I can use during our therapy sessions to make them more comfortable and to get them opening up a little.
I saw an advertisement for Elmo Live and figured that it may be a good toy to try in my therapy room. I’ve had a Tickle Me Elmo for a long time, and that was always a popular toy, especially among the younger children. I purchased one and, am almost ashamed to say, spent about a half an hour the first night I bought him playing with him and learning how he worked. My husband actually enjoyed the toy as well, and liked trying to get Elmo do to new tricks and movements.
I brought Elmo into the therapy room, and the first case of the day was a young girl. She honed in on the toy and wouldn’t stop playing with it. While she was giggling, she was able to open up to me a bit about her home life, which is what I’d been trying to get her to do for weeks. The Elmo Live reviews are all right in that this is one toy that has amazing abilities, but most of all I appreciate the ability the toy has to make children use their imagination, and the ability that it has to get a shy child to open up and smile.
