When you’re asked to review a toy, especially one that is as popular as many of the Elmo toys are, you know that you’re in for a treat, and you’re also in for a difficult judging experience. Tickle Me Elmo has been one of the hottest toys to ever exist, and trying to judge something that is supposed to take its place is extremely hard, so when it came to judging the new Elmo Live doll, it has some pretty stiff competition to go against.
The Appearance
In any evaluation, appearance is a primary factor, and for this Elmo Live review, the situation was little different. The appearance of the doll is very much like the appearance of the original Tickle Me Elmo doll, and at first glance, it’s difficult to tell that the two of them are different toys. A closer look, however, shows you the metal braces on the feet, which is designed to help Elmo stand up easily without falling down. The mouth also opens up, which is different than any other Elmo toy on the market. The red fur is exactly the same, as is the huge grin on Elmo’s face.
The Sound
Like other Elmo dolls, this one makes sounds. Unlike other Elmo dolls, however, Elmo Live actually has a mouth that moves with the speaking Elmo. When it comes to an Elmo Live review, you have to talk about the mouth. This mouth is absolutely amazing. Not only does it move in tune with the vocals coming out of the doll, it does so completely flawlessly, making you believe that there is actually a hand behind Elmo controlling everything he says and does! A glance, however, shows that there is nothing back there aside from Elmo’s stool. The Elmo Live doll takes it up a serious notch when it comes to realistic animation, as there has never been another Elmo doll to act as alive as this one does.
As for the other sounds, the ones that are made when Elmo’s arms and legs move, it is difficult to tell that there is any mechanics inside of the doll, as there is hardly any sound to be found through the padding and the fuzzy fur of the Elmo Live doll.
What Elmo Does
Parents were as annoyed with Tickle Me Elmo as it is possible to be. All Tickle Me Elmo did was talk to their children and giggle and shake, which, after hearing it for the hundredth time, got very frustrating and irritating. This one, however, does so much more. To begin with, this Elmo tells stories to children! Elmo has a list of a number of stories that he can tell children, and he pauses for a moment each time to think of the perfect story to tell. The stories range in length, but are generally long enough to keep even the oldest of children listening with glee. He also sings songs with your children, including songs that are designed to get them moving, by standing up and sitting down, and tells jokes that are kid approved and great for the playground sect. He stands, sits, and crosses his legs, and not just a little, a lot. This Elmo is almost in perpetual motion, moving continually and making children smile the entire time. This Elmo Live review found that it was one of the most realistic toys on the market today.
The Details
Elmo Live requires 6 AA batteries, which may seem like a lot, but is actually a moderate amount compared to other toys that have as much technology in them as this one does. This Elmo Live review took a number of days, and the batteries did not seem to die down at all, making us believe that the toy will last on one set of batteries for quite awhile. The greatest thing about this doll is that it is designed to truly keep kids attention. The doll moves and grooves, giggles and laughs, sings songs and entertains better than any other doll in existence. It is a guarantee that you will be finding this doll underneath almost all toddlers Christmas trees for many years to come, and that he will become the favored Elmo toy, beating out Tickle Me Elmo for the spot of “Favorite Elmo Toy”, hands down. Almost every Elmo Live review has to agree, this is a top toy for this year.
